Stop and Smell the Roses

The other day I was thinking about how everyone is constantly going and wanting to get to the next big thing, and they’re not enjoying the journey.  I am definitely one of those people, but I really wish I wasn’t. I think about all the things I want to achieve and I don’t take a break until I finish them, and then I wonder why I don’t feel happy and satisfied with life. You have to actually stop what you’re doing and look around because life’s already started. I don’t think that to stop and smell the roses just means you have to slow down and enjoy every day things you take for granted but every once and a while you need to stop doing the thing that’s stressing you out and do something you want to.

One of my favorite quotes is, “Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.” - Robert Brault. It’s honestly a really hard quote to live by, but there’s so much truth to it. I enjoy little things like when I have a nice long chat with my mum or dad, or even things like waking up with the warm sun shining in my window, more than those important days I expect to be so great and wait weeks for.

I believe that enjoying the simple little things, like when you can sit outside on a beautiful summer morning with a nice cup of hot chocolate is one of the most important keys to happiness.
